Happy Thanksgiving!
We’re taking a brief pause in our Children Home Rule series for Thanksgiving.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I think it’s more important than ever before to realize what we are thankful for.
This year has been a trying year for everyone. January and February seemed to hold such promise for the coming months of 2020. And then everyone’s world got turned upside down.
I’ll admit, initially I was extremely confused. I wasn’t alone in this, I know, but at the time our family took it in stride and enjoyed the extra time together. Of course, at that time, we had no idea what kind of impact this would have on our lives.
I think we were also guilty of not taking the pandemic threat as seriously at first. It was something that hadn’t impacted us or anyone we knew. It’s very easy to become jaded when there isn’t any impact on oneself directly.
Then greater and greater numbers started rolling in and people closer and closer to us started getting impacted by the virus. We also realized that it wasn’t going away anytime soon.
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. I’d say that in this instance, absence makes the body ravenous; hungry for what we remember as commonplace. There is this yearning for things to revert back to what we know and love.
It’s amazing how much of our lives and enjoyment of things revolves around tangible interaction with other people. We’ve had to adjust everything we know and adapt. Certain technologies that we may have only been aware of, have suddenly become commonplace, even essential.
I’ll say this for certain; I never thought that I’d have to teach Tae Kwon Do online!
Usually, at this time of year, we can easily bring to mind the things for which we are thankful. I think this year it’s a little tougher, but still doable. It starts with the little things. The more little things we can remember to be thankful for, the more those little things will add up. It gives us a better outlook on our lives and more thoughtful consideration of others as we navigate these uncertain times together.
So, here’s my challenge to you: Find at least ten things for which you are thankful. Write them down and post it somewhere around your house. Let it be a good reminder.
Happy Thanksgiving!
